I want to get started... now what?

Great! We would love to have you as a student. And we will do everything in our power to help you achieve your goals! Just pick up the phone and call us at 972-691-0777 or email us at You can also simply stop by our beautiful, safe and clean facility.

What will I do?

You will do martial arts...! Kick, punch, yell, sweat, jump, lose weight, build muscles, tone your body, learn to break boards, learn self-defense, meet exciting people, make new friends, improve your concentration, build self-esteem, focus, increase your agility and stamina. You will learn to relax and calm your body when needed. You will start feeling better about yourself and much more!

What about my age?

Are you at least 4 years old? Good! You can do it!

How many times a week?

2x a week is the recommended number of times needed. We encourage all students to try to come 3x a week for best results. Setting a schedule and being consistent is very important to your advancement and goal accomplishment. It is better to do 2 classes every week than missing a week and then trying to make it up the next week. Additionally, students that do not come to class consistently often feel out of place and then do not want to come back to class. Students that do come on a consistent basis feel better and actually look forward to coming to class.

And what do I wear?

For your free trial workout you can wear clean sports pants and a t-shirt. For women we also recommend wearing a sports top. Please leave all jewelry at home as these may cause an injury to you or other students. We train barefooted.

What will be expected from me?

We expect our students to give their best effort. Technique at the early stages of training is not as important as a positive attitude. If a student tries hard and has a good attitude, they will develop better technique over time because they are listening and learning.

When do I get my Black Belt

It is mathematically possible to become a 1st Degree Black Belt in about two and a half years if you have consistent attendance and pass all testings successfully. However, it takes most people longer to attain that rank. Remember, grasshopper, the 1st Degree Black Belt is just a beginning, not the end, of serious training. Black Belt indicates that the wearer is a serious student of the art.

Can we come watch a class?

Definitely! However, we recommend that you come in and actually try the class. It will be a fun experience, and you will get a better feel for it. Then you can decide whether you like it or not.

Our 5 star Testimonials

“The day I walked into Mr. Strickland's school to sign my then 7-year old son up for classes, I never expected to gain the lifelong friendships and experiences I did. In addition to my son, both my daughters as well as myself became students/instructors and since have incorporated the tenants into our lives. Over the years I have followed several of the students and have seen a trend of success in their lives and academic careers. I truly believe that the experiences we as a group had, the fellowship and camaraderie, have been a major influence. I would tell any parent to consider this sport for their child because without a doubt they will walk away with more lessons learned then they could ever imagine and hope for.”

~ Catherine Crooy “Ine” Jacobs - Parent/Instructor/Student

“It has as been a great experience for my whole family.  While the instruction is superior, the classes are taught in a fun, un intimidating environment.  We have been able to use successes and setbacks as opportunities to grow.   We looked at a lot of schools before selecting Strickland's. We cannot recommend them highly enough.”

~John Raods - Parent/Student

“I started Taekwondo with George Strickland in January 2002 at his original location in Highland Village. All I can say is that it was a life-changing experience. Having never done anything like martial arts, I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but I set a big goal of earning my First Degree Black Belt by the time I turned 50 (I was just one week shy of my 48th birthday). With George's positive attitude and encouragement, I reached my goal just a couple of months after reaching that 50 number. While I am now retired from the sport, I can say without hesitation that there is not a better Taekwondo instructor in the area and his new location is awesome!”

~Chip Ricketts - Parent/Student

“Mr. Srickland has an amazing personality that is one of kind. He has passion for teaching his students and for the art of Taekwondo, Highly recommended!”

~Trishia Johnson - Instructor School owner St. Cloud, FL.

One thing that I love (among many other things) about Stickland's Taekwondo is that they have Achievment stars where a school teacher can report back how a student is doing in school (not focus on grades but are striving to positively recognize students who are making a conscientious effort to improve their school work). Although my child is not to this point yet, but I LOVE that you do this. What a wonderful way to help improve the self-esteem to those kids who really do try at school when it does not come easy to them. I am proud that my daughter is a tiny tiger at Strickland’s Taekwondo!”

~Amanda Shriver - Parent

I recommend this school to anyone in looking for a great place to train. Strickland's Taekwondo teaches you respect, discipline, self defense, and much more in a fun atmosphere with amazing people.    “I am 50 years old.  I have always been a bit of a gym rat and have always enjoyed staying in shape.  Last year I got really bored with my workout routine.  I felt my conditioning was not where it should be and was becoming mentally unmotivated. For some time I had, been toying with trying martial arts, but could never find a place I could call "home."

Last July, I wondered into Strickland's TKD and met Mr. Strickland. He showed me around the facility and introduced me to the program he follows.  I decided to give it a try for a couple of months to see if this place was for me.

I am now certain I have found my "home."  What a great place!  In just 10 months I have become more flexible, my conditioning is better than it has been in years and I have made many new friends.  The skills I am learning are not only building my confidence in the art of Tae Kwon Do, but are translating to other areas.

I enjoy playing pick up basketball with friends.  I have never been particularly good at basketball since I never played it as a kid. Since joining Strickland's TKD I have been amazed (and so have my basketball friends!) as to how the skills I am learning in Tae Kwon Do are helping me be a better player on the basketball court.

If you are interested in learning a martial art, want to get in better shape or just want to make new friends (or all the above!) I highly recommend you give Strickland's Tae Kwon Do a try!”
